SINDA/FLUINTÔ

SINDA/FLUINTÔ is generalized thermal analyzer designed to function as either a standalone program or to be used as the solution module for the Thermal DesktopÔ code.  Like Thermal DesktopÔ, SINDA/FLUINTÔ was originally developed under NASA sponsorship to provide detailed thermal models of spacecraft.  However, it has general applicability to a wide range of thermal and fluid flow problems.  The same advanced thermal modeling features available for the Thermal DesktopÔ code are also available within the SINDA/FLUINTÔ code.  These modeling features permits the user to simulate complex heat transfer processes such as:

·         temperature dependant thermal properties,

·         time and temperature dependant heat loads,

·         contact conductance,

·         surface insulation and coatings,

·         point and volumetric heat loads,

·         constant-temperature heaters,

·         one-way thermal conductors,

·         extensive radiation modeling capabilities including multiple reflections for low emissivity surfaces,

·         single and multi-phase flow,

·         simulation of heat pipes.

SINDA/FLUINTÔ allows the user to incorporate customized subroutines to handle complex, problem-specific calculations.  Examples include chemical reactions, gas generation from radiolysis, heat transfer property calculations as a function of the mole fractions of the gas constituents, pressure, and temperature, etc.

The code can handle extremely large thermal model (> 500,000 thermal nodes) efficiently by allowing the system to be broken into ‘submodels’.  Each submodel can be assigned its own solution control constants to speed the overall solution by allowing submodels with large heat sources/sinks, temperature sensitive elements, etc. to receive the greatest share of the computer resources.

SINDA/FLUINTÔ has been validated under NQA-1 and 10CFR71, Subpart H for use in evaluating the thermal performance of safety related systems for nuclear designs.
